If you need to lose weight and will be in a restaurant, choose your companions wisely. Research shows both sexes eat more when women are present and less when men are. Understand that you may overeat around women based on recent studies.

Listen to your cravings! Foods like chips and ice cream are delicious. When you have cravings for these foods, they will be even stronger when trying to lose weight. Resist the temptation, but do not ignore these cravings completely. Instead, feed the craving with a healthy alternative in order to get the satisfaction you desire.

Be sure to have a true breakfast prior to leaving for the day. When you're in a hurry, you could easily be tempted to get a breakfast pastry as you go to work. But, there is virtually no nutrition in such items. You should eat a fruit or some oatmeal to get your day started with a healthy meal.

Reduce the fat and calories that you consume. There is twice the calories per fat gram as compared to a gram of protein or carbs. Do not eat high-fat foods, try not to use oil, and minimize your consumption of dairy. Include foods high in fiber such as fruit and vegetables which give you the feeling of being full, while cutting down on the foods that are high in calories.

If you work, bring a healthy lunch and snacks with you. If your hours are long, it's important not to go too long without eating. You will go back to eating junk food that will just set you back.

Getting healthy does not mean that you have to remove fat from your diet. All fats are not the same. In fact, some fats, like Omega 3,6, and 9 fatty acids, are good. These fats aren't found in preservative packed foods. But, such fatty acids are plentiful in legumes and in fish, and facilitate weight loss and healthy hearts.
